Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Prof. Kabir Bala has received executive members of Samaru Development Association in his office on Friday.
The Vice-Chancellor, who described Samaru as the closest neighbour to the University, said ABU would continue to help improve on the wellbeing of the community.
He said members of the community, for example, could take advantage of the research findings by the Institution’s agric complex to improve on their farming techniques for higher yield.
The Vice-Chancellor also explained the University would continue to assist the community in the training for skills acquisition to empower people of the area, especially women.
On environment, the Vice-Chancellor advised the community to learn from ABU the practice of three planting to secure the area from pollution. “We want Samaru to look like ABU Area ‘A’ Staff Quarters”, he said.
Prof. Bala also spoke on the vital role the casual labourers were playing in making ABU one of the neatest universities in Nigeria. He said it was a deliberate policy of ABU to employ casual workers from communities surrounding the University.
The chairman of the association, Malam Mohammed Shuaibu, had earlier told the Vice-Chancellor that the visit was part of effort to cement the existing cordial relationship between the University and the Samaru Community.
Executive members of the association were led to the Vice-Chancellor by Sarkin Samaru, Alhaji Dauda Abubakar. Other members were Wazirin Samaru, Alhaji Haruna Waziri; patron of the association, Alhaji Dogara Haruna; Secretary, Malam Shuaibu Abdullahi; and Councillor, Malam Aminu Yusuf. They also included Malam Idris Adale, Bashir Dahiru Magaji, Umar Salisu and Malam Yahaya Ibrahim.
The Vice-Chancellor was assisted by the Director, Directorate of University Advancement, Prof. Ahmed D. Ibrahim and Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar to receive them.
