BSc. Geography

Entry Requirements
Candidates must possess five credits in science subjects including Mathematics and English at not more than two sittings in WASSCE Ordinary Level or its equivalent. Apart from at least a Credit Pass in Mathematics as a general requirement for admission into Faculty of Science, candidates for 100 Level must have at least a Credit pass in WASSCE Ordinary Level or its equivalent in Geography, Biology and any other science subject (Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, and Economics). A ‘C’ grade in Geography from the School of Basic and Remedial Studies Funtua is acceptable if there is evidence that the candidate in question sat for and failed Geography at the WASSCE or its equivalent.

Direct entry candidates (200 Level) must have in addition to a Credit pass in Geography and Mathematics in WASSCE Ordinary Level, at least a ‘C’ grade in Geography and a ‘Pass’ in two other science subjects at ‘A’ Level from the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMB)

Duration of the programme
The Department provides a four-year programme of courses leading to the award of B.Sc. Honours Degree in Geography for students admitted at 100 level. Students who already possess ‘A’ level Geography join this programme at 200 level.

In line with the general University academic structure and calendar, this programme is organised on the course-credit system in two semesters for each academic session.

Graduation Requirements
For a candidate admitted at 100 Level to graduate, he/she must earn at least 120 credit units and pass all the prescribed core courses of the department including the General Studies and Electives. A candidate admitted at 200 Level (Direct Entry) must earn 90 credit units and also pass all the prescribed core courses including the General Studies and Electives.
